One-Two is a French Parisian duo that produce perfects pop songs with an electronic twist.
One-Two love 60’s pop bands like The Kinks, The Beatles, The beach boys, actual pop from Air, Phoenix, Tahiti 80, and electro from DFA, Soulwax, LCD Soundsystem…
Their music could be described as the result of a collaboration between The Beatles and Tiefschwarz, The kinks and LCD Soundsystem, or between the Beach boys and Soulwax!
Sounds good? It is.
Standard magazine described their music as “perfect pop songs, influenced by The Beatles, Blur or Supergrass, with an electronic production”. Ever saw them live? Propertop.com wrote about a gig in Manchester “One-Two blew the crowd away with their incredibly impressive performance of charming frog-pop. Their songs are even more catchy than Annie’s chewing-gum. Yes, that catchy.” Vice magazine warns all readers: “Remember you saw ‘em here first”
One-Two has never had any official release until last year, but boy, that was worth the wait: After being elected finalists for Les Inrockuptibles CQFD 2005 contest with their track “I can’t stand dance music”, the boys produced the track “Stay Beautiful” for the Swedish hip hop act Stacs of Stamina (described as a dainty cocktail of crunked up europop that could easily be Air producing TTC) and remixed Tiefschwarz “Warning Siren”, turning the track into a pop masterpiece.
In February 2006, Four Music released their first single E.P, Oh yeah, Alright. Stunning pop songs with a 4/4 rhythm. Beatles for the dancefloors. Title track Oh yeah, Alright is a catchy tune, an actual pop song inspired by 60’s British pop with guitars and electronic bleeps, while B side Heady Melody is the kind of song you can’t stop singing, with its (heady!) melody supported by heavy kick drum and analog synths. The E.P received a massive support from the indie scene, and the “buzz” is going!
Mixed by Stephane “Alf” Briat, sound maestro that worked for Air and Phoenix, “Love Again” is a stunning album, mixing superb ballads coming from the sixties (Blissful Boy, 10 a.m…) and twisted energetic pop songs (Oh yeah, alright, O hot brain, Pretty-pretty…)
