Rap is presence, rap means to reveal your inner self, to connect to your audience 100%. No problem here for Afrob as rap is his mission.
Afrob is peerless in Germany. Live on stage, the Stuttgart native turns into an animal, an explosive entertainer. He’s a true “Reimemonster” and he’s proved that on two brilliant solo records. Not to forget his latest release “Hammer”.
The rap star has always been a team player. He started as a member of Stuttgart’s all star crew “Die Kolchose”, went on tour with “FK Allstars” alongside Max Herre, Joy Denalane, Gentleman and Sékou and was involved in “Brothers Keepers”, a group of German soul and pop artists with a strong political agenda.
Afrob regularly joins friends and fellow rappers on their tracks. Afrob’s long list of guest appearances includes tracks with the Spezializtz, DJ Desue, Da Fource and the Ventura Brothers, always showcasing what he does best – street rap.
Afrob’s best mate and soul brother is fellow rapper Samy Deluxe. Afrob’s been guesting on Samy’s debut LP on the track “So soll’s sein” and on “Champion” from Samy Deluxe’s current # 2 album “Verdammtnochma!”. The two have also joined forces for the hip hop project “ASD”. Spring 2003 saw the release of the ASD album “Wer hätte das gedacht!?” which was another boost for the German hip hop community. Afrob and Samy lyrically are the perfect tag team and with the help of internationally acclaimed producers, the ASD debut became a landmark for German hip hop. “We both gave the best we had and we never stop learning from each other,” Afrob sums up the experience.
“Hammer“ is released on February 28th 2005. The new album sounds more mature and more multi-faceted then everything we’ve heard from Afrob before. “Hammer” is Afrob’s third solo album and includes party tracks such as “Es geht doch” and showcases Afrob’s sensational styles as on “Geh dazu ab”. “Stopp die Party” is storytelling at its best and there’s even a touching love song on the record. “I’d say that anything should go. I just go into the studio and see what happens,” Afrob muses.
It goes without saying that Afrob is joined by some of his best friends and fellow hip hop artists on his new album. Guests include Dean Dawson (Spezializtz), Samy Deluxe, Lisi, Max Herre and the wonderful Joy Denalane.
For “Hammer“, Afrob has been working with some of the hottest hip hop producers available. Only the phattest beats are supposed to join Afrob’s excellent lyrics and styles.
Afrob has been working with Berlin natives DJ Desue (Samy Deluxe) and DJ Rocky (Tatwaffe) and producer team “Bock auf’n Beat Garde” (KC Da Rokee, Busta Rhymes) from Frankfurt. The first single is “Wollt ihr wissen…”, a real burner produced by Dash (Blackout Entertainment (ASD, Samy Deluxe, Curse)) from Croatia.
In New York, Afrob met mega producer Needlz who crafted some excellent beats for the young German rapper. Needlz has been working with artists such as G-Unit member Young Buck and Drag-On (Ruff Ryder).
New York producers Gerrard Baker and Megahertz (P. Diddy, Jay-Z, Nas) contributed more extra hot tracks as well as Brooklynite Jaz-O who is as well-known for his skills as an MC and producer as for being hip hop superstar Jay-Z’s mentor.
From Eminem’s home town Detroit come two fantastic instrumentals, crafted by producer wunderkind Young RJ. Another “Motor City” native is Waajeed (of Slum Village fame) who also cut a beat for Afrob.
The pulsating LP intro comes from DJ 5ter Ton (Massive Töne).
Watch out, this record is a mighty “Hammer”!
