Indra Afia is an African name that means “born on a Friday“.
Indra Afia grew up in Hamburg as the daughter of a German costume designer and an actor from Ghana. Those creative genes must have influenced Indra.
“I started writing poems when I was eight. I’ve always loved singing and I’ve also been in a gospel choir. I think, I realised pretty soon that music fulfilled me more than anything else.”
Indra makes soul music, German soul music. Soul music must come from the soul and that’s why Indra sings in German, her native tongue and the language in which she can express her feelings best.
The title of the album “Sein“ (“Be“) for Indra means to be here, on this world, to feel love and to feel life and most of all, to be herself.
Indra loves to be here, at this time and that’s what her record is about. “It’s the most wonderful thing to be with the people I love – family, friends, my band and of course, my fans.”
Her songs are happy, sad, groovy and always sung with a beautiful warm soul voice. Songs such as “Gegen den Strom”, “Endlich da“ or “Regenbogen“ showcase Indra’s effortlessness – and depth.
Her debut single “Was ist los“ is about being in love and about the whirlwind you’re in when you’re having a serious crush on someone.
Indra Afia loves to perform on stage and to connect to her audience. This is where she comes alive. Seeing Indra Afia in concert is always a great pleasure because she’s not only extraordinary talented but also very beautiful.
“It’s my biggest dream to touch people with my music, I really hope that I can do that.”
“Sein“ will be released on Four Music in late March 2007.
“I’m very grateful to be alive. It’s wonderful to be with the people you love. Love is a divine force and pain is only proof that you’re alive.” Indra Afia
